Story
I'm taking part in the Brisbane Marthon Festival 2018 and hoping to raise much needed funds for charity.
This August, I’m going to be sweating it out and doing my best to complete a gruelling course, but in doing so I will be making my run count! I am honoured to be a part of this amazing race and helping a great cause, and I’d really appreciate your support in this endeavour.
I will be raising funds for Suicide Prevention Australia, who is passionate about developing a community who know how to ask for help and how to give help. They work hard to influence policy, facilitate research, develop the skills of health professionals, and educate the wider community.
Approximately 8 people die by suicide in Australia each day, and for every one person who suicides, an estimated 30 others attempt suicide. As a psychologist, it is impossible to be naive to these frightening statistics as we see first-hand the risk and impact of suicide every single day. But the word needs to be spread beyond our therapy rooms, and I’m so grateful there are organisations like Suicide Prevention Australia who do just that.
